This unassuming cluster of 18th and 19th century houses huddled together on the headland jutting out into the Celtic Sea looks at first glance much like any other fishing port turned holiday village in North Cornwall. But Port Isaac has seen more than its fair share of fame over the years due to its use as the backdrop in numerous TV shows and feature films.

Port Isaac was the location for the filming of the 1970s series Poldark, the 1980s drama The Nightmare Man and the comedy film Saving Grace was shot in and around the village. Most recently Port Isaac has become better known as Port Wenn in the popular ITV series Doc Martin which follows the upheaval created by a tactless GP, played by Martin Clunes, when he moves to a quiet Cornish community very different from his London roots as a successful surgeon.

So if you’re a fan of the series and hope to bump into any of its characters in the local bakery or pub or dream of being lucky enough to be able to watch an episode being filmed then Port Isaac may well be worth a visit.

The unspoilt character of Port Isaac with its whitewashed cottages and narrow streets, flanked by towering cliffs and spectacular ocean vista is what will be sure to make any visitor to this village fall in love with it. Among those who have fallen for its charm are interior designer and TV presenter Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Cash In The Attic presenter Lorne Spicer who have decided to make Port Isaac their holiday home from home.
